the names of the 4 commanders being based on DNA was intentional, that is not what the meaning of irony is.

    speaking of irony, Simon and Kamina in itself is an irony.
    
    Simon means below, Kamina means above.
    
    Their personality fits their names, yet their role on the Gurren Lagann is opposite. Kamina pilot from below, Simon pilot from above on the head.
