I was born and raised in England, an old country full of myths and legends, from the Loch Ness Monster to Black Hounds said to be a portent of death, from Kelpie’s to Banshee’s, my country is rich with folklore.

Which is probably why I am so fascinated with anything of that nature, so any manga featuring youkai is an instant draw for me. No wonder then, that I’ve really grown to like ‘Kamisame Hajimemashita, currently being scanned by Aerandria Though by no means is this the only manga they scanlate worth reading. They seem to have a knack for picking really good mangas.

Its shoujo, so expect cliches, many of them in fact. But I love Tomoe so much that I find myself overlooking the usual familiar plot lines.

Nanami, loses her home due to her father’s gambling debts, oh and her deadbeat father also abandons her. Having nowhere to go she ends up in a local park and saves a hysterical man up a tree from a dog.

Finding out she has nowhere to go the man kisses her on the forehead and tells her to seek out his place, since he can’t go back there. Upon arrival Nanami finds herself at a shrine.

It seems that the man she met called ‘Mikage’ passed on the mark of the land god to her with that kiss. She is now the land god of the shrine and all that comes with it, which includes a very annoyed familiar, a Kitsune called Tomoe.

Tomoe is beautiful, arrogant, deadly and very unhappy about the entire situation, but we don’t need a mind reader to know, that slowly he and Nanami are going to grow to like each other.

Its fun, its cute and I absolutely adore Tomoe, particularly when he’s angry, which happens often where Nanami is concerned, because of course being human, she draws a lot of trouble from the youkai side of her new position.

This really is one of my favorite current reads, sometimes you need some plain old lighthearted fun and this manga has it in spades.

So this caught my eye yesterday, in fact I got so consumed by the story I spent all day reading until I had read all that Wing Tip Cafe had scanlated.

Don’t let the art stop you from checking it out, I’m aware that it probably isn’t the most appealing to some. After all if I had let art be an issue I’d have never read Hana Yori Dango.

Ashita no Ousama “Tomorrow’s King” revolves around Sasaya Yuu. After a school acquaintance Yoshisawa asks her along to see a play, Sasaya becomes fascinated by theatre.

Of course the idea of such a country bumpkin as herself making it onto stage is totally laughable and seems like a far away dream.
Lucky for her Yoshisawa decides to pick on her and take her to see a prestigious troupe, which backfires in Sasaya’s favor, when she recognizes the actor Ichii Touya from the play she had previously seen.

He was helping out for a friend and would get into trouble if his troupe found out he had worked for another company. He’s astounded that Sasaya could recognize him through all the make-up, but she has an eye for detail and an ear for voices.

Touya ends up recommending her to a troupe run by a friend of his, not because Sasaya threatens him with blackmail, she’s just not that type of girl, but because she intrigues him with her desire to make it on stage.

AHA! I hear you all say, this is where she goes along and everyone discovers she’s an acting prodigy! Well not quite, she doesn’t even have an ounce of talent when it comes to acting, in fact she can’t even act like a robot without messing it up.

It gets to the point where she is all ready to give everything up, but Touya helps her to see that there is more to the stage than just acting, starting Sasaya on the road to living her dream of being a part of the stage, even if it doesn’t involve being an actor.

The characters are what really sucked me into this manga, although the insight into theater is also an interesting read. The more she discovers herself and her talents the more people are drawn to Sasaya. Something that really seems to annoy Touya, who has become quite possessive of her.

He absolutely hates it when she praises others in front of him,totally flies off at the deep end when he sees the Chief comforting her and develops a hatred for Kazuma Rin, just because Sasaya is captivated by his talent.

It seems like its love, although Touya himself doesn’t seem to realize that. In fact he is pretty dense where love is concerned, considering he can’t see that his childhood friend is in love with him.
Of course she’s so bitchy and overbearing about it, I wouldn’t blame him for not seeing the love. Especially when she is so blinded by trying to be the best for him she actually has no idea who he really is and what he really wants.

He’s a totally interesting character, If it involves acting he’s on top of his game, but when it comes to something like love, he’s completely clueless. Or maybe its more like acting consumes him so much he just doesn’t give love a thought or has never given it a thought, so he doesn’t really know how it feels and so doesn’t recognize it.

At one point he suggests that Sasaya and himself are the same; so caught up in work, that it is all they see. At this point Sasaya is actually a bit more aware than Touya, since the Chief has helped her to realize something important.

Its funny how Touya comes to rely on Sasaya, who is even more naive when it comes to people than he is, but it is sweet how they become each others encouragement.
I don’t think he even realizes how jealous he gets about sharing her. Sasaya of course is totally oblivious to it, but its funny how this handsome, totally together guy, becomes this jealous, petty, child whenever her attention is taken away from him.

Even with the guys flocking around her I’m not even sure you could accuse the manga of turning into a harem. Since I really think Kazuma is just interested in her talents, although the Kabuki actor Fujinosuke certainly seems to be drawn to her both romantically and professionally.

From where I last left off it seems that maybe Touya may actually have gotten a clue, but he’s kissed her before and brushed it off as nothing, so we’ll see what happens this time. With his new found sense of determination I’m sure Fujinosuke won’t just sit back and let Touya win.

Well I think I mentioned it might be a good idea just to do some random posts on manga I am reading. So when I happened upon this manga today and this scene that made me decide to carry on reading it, because I couldn’t stop laughing, I figured it would make a great quick post.

The plot isn’t all that complex, in fact you’ve probably heard it all before. Super strong girl, sick of being thought of as a rough girl (at this point Oresama Teacher springs to mind), transfers to another school in search of love.

Of course her first day there Sonoda mistakenly thinks Tokio is bullying some other kids and decks him, breaking his nose and in the process earning herself a one way trip into the ‘Baka-class’.

She does indeed find a guy she likes though, of course the Princely Shin-sama is seemingly out of her league. You know the kind, hawt, smart, top of the school.

But of course we all know that she’s going to end up with Tokio in the end. Even with all the obstacles in their way, such as Shin-sama’s fanclub.

Or there is Kenichi deciding that even though his love is unrequited he can’t hand his beloved Tokio over, which sucks for Tokio since he actually seems to like Sonoda, even though at first all he wanted to do was fight her.

Besides, we all know the princely Shin can’t be all that he seems right? Typical fare really, but I’ll keep reading as long as it continues to make me laugh.

So I blame DB for posting a link to the Infinite Ryvius OP on FB. Because it got me thinking about all the anime related music I like.

Of course there are too many to post them all, but for nostalgia’s sake I took a look through my Itunes folder and happily discovered that yes I did have some Animetal in there. I did a search on youtube and to my delight found that they did a cover of the Macross OP.

But my two faves from them are probably this “The Juppon Gatana”

and this “Towa no Mirai, both from Rurouni Kenshin.

Ahh they take me back since Kenshin was one of the first animes I ever saw. Though the OAV ending makes me sad, so I’m going to go with the manga ending for that show, much better. I think after all he went through, Kenshin really deserved a happy ending.

Although I have to say my current fave song right now is probably “From Dusk Til Dawn” by abingdon boys school.

I’ve pretty much liked everything they’ve released so far, but that’s no surprise since I always liked T.M Revolution. Who funnily enough I first heard due to Kenshin since they used his song Heart of Sword.

Of course now you realize I have to go re-watch Rurouni Kenshin…

This is Sakura

So I wouldn’t expect too many anime posts about the upcoming season from me, because frankly nothing really looks worth my time case in point…

There are a few series that I’m interested in, but the rest all seems like carbon copies of each other…

Baka to Test no Shoukanjuu

Premise: The show centers around Akihisa Yoshii. In the Academy he attends the prodigies are in the A class and the idiots like himself the F class. (I am yawning already)

One of the smart girls Mizuki Himeji, is sick on test day and ends up in the F class along with the idiots and of course you just know Akihisa finds her hawt. Oh yeah they can summon fantasy creatures to battle and Akihisa decides to challenge the higher tiered classes to battle with these creatures to get their perks.

Verdict:

For some reason the only school –> plus kinda stupid guy —> lots of girls –> magic or whatever, kind of show I don’t mind so much is Negima.

I blame Maburaho, I hated that show so much I think it just kind of put me off this genre as a whole. The fanservice in the trailer didn’t endear it to me either. So in case the negative tone didn’t already clue you in, I’ll be passing on this.

… I feel the same… (really, I do. Words can’t describe the hatred I have for maburaho)

Chu Bra!!

Premise: Middle-Schooler Nayu, loves underwear and so starts up a club so that her schoolmates can understand the wonderfulness that is undies.

Verdict:

Um yeah… HELL NO! In fact if anyone knows a spell that can erase my memory so I can forget I even wasted time on the trailer, please let me know.

*Sigh…it’s like they’re not even trying now… I’m not going near this with a ten foot pole…

Dance in the Vampire Bund

Premise: Wanting to end the isolation of her race, vampire Mina Tepes pays off the national debt of the Japanese government, to create a special district for Vampires and then plans to announce their existence to the world. However not all vampires or humans are quite comfortable with her plans…

Verdict:

The premise sounded interesting and I like vampires. So it was looking good, until the whole practically naked loli thing.

Yeah, yeah she’s 300 years old, whatever, she still looks pre-pubescent and she’s running around the trailer in nothing but a skimpy pair of panties and a cloak that does nothing to hide her undeveloped chest.

Even if she has a more adult form when unsealed I’m basically too grossed out to even consider watching it.  I’m not into lolicon or shouta so this is a big fat pass. Its a pity they couldn’t have made this premise without the whole loli aspect, I’d have totally been keen on checking it out if they had.

Read some of the manga, not interested.

Durarara

Premise: The gangstars of the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo are all wary of the urban legend “Dullahan”, a headless rider, riding a black motorbike with no headlights and or engine sounds.

Ryuugamine Mikado likes to seek out the unusual and as he arrives in Ikebukuro a mad scramble for “Dullahan’s” head is breaking out.

Verdict:

Okay so maybe there is ONE show I’ll be at least checking out. I like the supernatural and this has fighting in it, so it has my interest. There is also the added bonus of no loli vamps or magical school girl harem elements, that alone so far makes it win.

Hmm…the animation looks pretty decent…I might watch this…

Airs: MBS, Fridays, starting January 8th.

Hanamaru Youchien (Hanamaru Kindergarten)

Premise: Anzu, Koume and Hiiragi are three pre-schoolers trying to attract the attention of their carer Tschuida. However he seems more interested in Yamamoto who teaches in the classroom next door.

Verdict:

Thank god for that, because if Mina the loli vamp hadn’t already left me with the need to bring up my lunch this would have. Except that going by the trailer it seems like they are going more for cute then ecchi and the guy seems to prefer chicks his own age.

Still don’t think I’m going to waste time on it though. Even if Seiji Mizushima (the director of Gundam 00) is going to be at the helm.

…(getting some really creepy Kodomo no Jikan vibes from this)…runs away…

Harukanaru Toki ni Naka de 3 ~Owari Naki Unmei

Premise: There is no trailer for this yet. If you haven’t seen the previous two, girl finds herself in magical land, gets drawn into various events in which only she can help and is surrounded by hawt guys, blah, blah, blah.

Verdict:

I did actually get through the first installment of this series, but just couldn’t bring myself to watch the second and doubt I’ll go anywhere near the third. In a nutshell… YAWN!

I have never really liked the whole idea of male harems, and this…well…it’s kind of like a reverse eroge, isn’t it (note that I said reverse, not anti)? Anyway, the main complaint that I have with these kinds of series is that the guys are all ugly. I can stand mindless crap if the guys are pretty, but this is just plain awful.

Airs: AT-X, Mondays, starting January 4th.

Hidamari Sketch

Premise: Group of girls living in an apartment and attending the same school.

Verdict:

Unless I hear exceptional things about it, not going to bother. I think I’ll have more fun playing my new video games or building my VF-27.

Not into slice of lifes.

Airs: TBS, Fridays, starting January 8th.

Katanagatari

Premise: The seventh head of the Kyotou school of Japanese sword martial arts, Yasuri Shichika, heads out to collect the twelve treasured swords created by a legendary swordsmith Shikizaki Kiki.

Verdict:

Okay, based on light novels authored by Nishio, Ishin who also authored Bakemonogatari, so I’m already interested. Plus the art style kind of has me drawn in.

We found another winner, well okay not winner but I’ll will be checking this one out.

It’s NISIO ISIN! It’s TAKE! It’s a MUST WATCH!

Ladies versus Butlers

Verdict: So the beginning of the trailer bored me to tears, then it got worse… in other words fanservice. So this is a no for me. If I’m going to watch something with a butler in it, that would be Kuroshitsuji.

Premise:

Oh you wanted to know what the plot is about? Does it even really matter, one guy, a school full of girls, panty shots, nakedness, groping and inexplicably a girl whose hair looks like a pair of croissants… That probably about covers it.

Hmm? What do you mean this is a new series? I don’t see anything, nope, nothing at all, it’s not like I’m blocking out all fanservicy harem series from my brain or anything like that~

Airs: AT-X, Tuesdays, January 5th.

Nodame Cantabile Final

Premise: If you like me haven’t seen this from the beginning, it basically centers around Shinichi Chiaki who is a top class pianist. Sadly he cannot pursue his dream of a career amongst the elites in Europe since he is afraid of flying.

Grounded in Japan he meets Noda Megumi (Nodame). She’s unkempt, has no direction, ends up moving next door to him and to his dismay falls in love with him. But something about the way she plays piano draws him in and the anime/manga follows their relationship as they learn from one another.

Verdict:

Okay so make that 3 shows worth checking out. Though I wont be watching this just yet til I’m caught up since I haven’t even gotten around to watching the beginning. But I have enjoyed the few chapters I’ve read of the manga so its on my list of anime/manga to get to.

A friend of mine has been raving about this series for forever, so maybe when it’s finished I’ll pick it up?

Omamori Himari

Premise: Guy, something, something demons, something, something ends up being protected by catgirl with sword.

Verdict:

Yawn and if that wasn’t enough the trailer with fanservice really didn’t endear me either. If they were going to go the whole omamori route I’d have preferred they made something out of Omamori no Kamisama. Better yet make an anime out of Kamisama Hajimemashita, that I WOULD FOR SURE ENJOY!

I can’t see anything…I can’t see anything…well, I did see some QUALITY, but, no…I can’t see anything…

Airs: UHF, TBA January.

Ookami Kakushi

Premise: Brought to you by those behind the Higurashi franchise it revolves around 16 year old Hiroshi Kuzumi. He’s just moved to Jogamachi a place big on carrying on their old traditional ways. Everyone seems to warm to him at school except for his class president, Nemuru Kushinada who warns him to stay away from the old part of town…

Verdict:

I like mystery, but the trailer didn’t seem all the interesting and besides I have a feeling Choux might be giving this one a looksee so I’ll defer to her

First off, we have a BEAUTIFUL song by Kalafina; then, we have the peach pit designs; on top of that we have RYUKISHI07! Well, unfortunately, studio DEEN is there too, but nevertheless, I’ll be REALLY looking forward to this series~ (okay, turns out I was mistaken, it’ll be studio AIC instead. But the animation still doesn’t seem any better)

Seikon no Qwaser

Premise: Oribe Mafuyu is attending St. Mikhailov Academy, she meets a Qwaser called Alexander, who draws his power from… ‘breast milk’

Verdict:

So if the premise hadn’t already lost me, the panty shots and jiggling breasts further cemented my decision not to bother with this.

Usually, I’d stay away from a series like this, but then I read the manga on a whim (hey, the guy wrote Mai Otome Arashi, and that was chock full of awesome). I couldn’t believe it, but it’s actually really good (once you get past the nudity and the religious references). I’ll be watching this, mostly for Sasha (he’s so adorable~)

So Ra Wo To No

Premise: War has brought a gradual decline to the world. People have disappeared from the town of Seize and fishes have ceased to exist in the sea. In this quiet town five girls guard a tower.

Verdict:

I think I’ll check out the first episode, though I’m not all that sure I’ll be sticking with it. Maybe it will be more lively than the trailer is showing it to be.

Yawning at the story and sobbing at how the art was changed. I’m not going near this thing.

Weiss Survive R

Premise: All I know about this is something to do with card battles.

Verdict:

Bored now.

SERIOUSLY, WHY THE HELL DOES THE STUDIOS KEEP CHURNING OUT THIS CRAP?!?

Airs: TBS, Saturdays, December 5th.

No that isn’t an old picture of Itachi from a previous chapter, it is in fact the final panel from the current chapter. The ‘dead’ Itachi is now standing before Danzo…

Now I hate Danzo, but even I have to agree with his words here, because its pretty much the truth. Unless Sasuke has been playing Madara this whole time and if he has then he’s a bloody good actor. But then so was his older brother, though Itachi by far seems to be the more intelligent of the two, particularly given Sasuke’s behavior lately.
Madara didn’t bring Sasuke to Danzo for any kind of revenge, again he’s just using Sasuke as a tool to gauge Danzo’s strength’s and abilities.
Either Sasuke is aware of this and just doesn’t care, thinking that as long as he gets his revenge it doesn’t make a difference. Or he’s completely oblivious to how Madara is playing him for a patsy. We’ll find out in time I guess.
Sasuke was smart when he was younger, it would be sad if he grew up to be an idiot.

Danzo continues to berate Sasuke and tells him he’s making the sacrifice of his clan worthless, further invoking Sasuke’s anger. But despite invoking both Susanoo and Amaterasu, cutting off Danzo’s arm of Sharingan (also looks like he beheaded him too, but kind uncertain on that) still Danzo stands before him without a scratch.

Karin using her ability to gauge chakra’s determines that they are not under a genjutsu and Madara learns not only of Danzo’s skills but new skills Sasuke has picked up since he now seems to be able to summon a huge hawk.

At the climax of the chapter, black crows appear and standing before Danzo appears to be Uchiha Itachi (ahh my inner fangirl is deliriously happy).

Hmm so is Itachi really alive or is his appearance similar to that of the Yondaime’s and so this will be a limited appearance.

Or was the Itachi that actually fought Sasuke nothing but a fake, like the jutsu they performed when he and Kisame faced off against team seven previously? Making the Itachi we see now the real one?

I can’t wait to find out

So after Shou’s shenanigans I was hoping that Ren would kick the crap out of him. But looks like our Tsuruga is a little more sly than that and decides to play the asshat at his own game rather than confronting him.

Because the real problem is that Kyoko’s thoughts are completely filled with Shou. Even if they are thoughts of gloom and doom, anger and rage, her mind is completely consumed by Shou.

Which of course was the man’s aim. He can’t stand not being the center of her world. Twisted as it may be, even if his actions lead her to hate him further, at least in her hatred he is the only person in her mind.

Unfortunately Ren didn’t quite give her the smacker that Shou did, he just aimed for her cheek. But the action itself was enough to erase Shou completely from Kyoko’s mind. Instead she is filled with thoughts of Ren.

He’s quite happy with himself over it, but ends up having to act like it was a simple thank you, because his actions are affecting Kyoko’s work.

He wishes that a part of him still lives in her heart, even though he had to act like it was something more simple than a representation of his true feelings.
In a way he and Shou have something in common. Ren didn’t do what he did, just because it was affecting Kyoko’s ability to function.
But on some level he did it for the same reason Shou did.
Ren wants to be the center of her world. She is his, he can’t have her soul consumed by the thoughts of another guy.

He might not know it, but I don’t think he has to worry on that score. I think he definitely made an impact on Kyoko’s heart, judging that expression.

YAY for Ren, the only thing that could make this sweeter, is seeing Shou’s face when he finds out Ren has one upped him XD

So Naruto has a mental breakdown and really after recent events who can blame him?

Well its no wonder Naruto is a hyperventilating mess on the floor as his world comes crashing down around him. Sasuke was lost to his team long ago and Sai finally informs him of his peers decision to wipe the Uchiha off the planet. As if that wasn’t enough, feeling guilty for guilt tripping Sakura into making the choice that she has, Sai tells Naruto that she has gone after the Sharingan eyed emo prince.

Your new Hokage everybody, his hobbies include porn and well… porn!

Kakashi, being the smart one that he is thinks he’s figured out her plan. So smart in fact, he’s declared Hokage, by Yamato… So not quite sure if that counts, but he does have the backing of Gaara and Suna who pledge that they will consider him Konoha’s Hokage.
Given what went down at the summit, the other Kage’s will not accept Danzou after his actions and they need an alliance if they are to survive against Madara and they Jinchuuriki.

Naruto believes in learning by repetition.

Naruto really can’t believe that Sakura would kill someone she loves so dearly. But Sai says that Sakura has grown up, she is able to put her feelings aside and see the bigger picture. She may love Sasuke but she can’t ignore the threat he now poses to Konoha.

Something tells me this one panel alone has started a ton of Gaara/Naruto fanfiction and doujin that I never want my eyes to see…

Gaara gives Naruto his support and some advice about Sasuke before leaving and Kakashi decides to go after Sakura before she can get herself killed. He’ll be sending his nin-dogs to Konoha with all the intel they’ve gathered, so maybe we’ll get to see Pakkun YAY!

Because two eyes aren’t enough, that is some serious overkill!

Yeah this was a WTF? moment. So seems Danzou harvested himself more than one Sharingan eye. Dude even I find that off putting and see insides daily for a living!

Ahh the patented Uchiha glare. If I stare at you long enough your head will explode… maybe…

As you can imagine Sasuke is not best pleased with seeing the eyes ripped from the corpses of his family upon the man that ordered their annihilation. He asks Danzou if what he learned about Itachi was true.

I’m squishing your body, I’m squishing your body. Unfortunately his little mantra doesn’t actually work very well.

Sasuke doesn’t like Danzou’s answer, particularly when he tells him that Itachi would have been the perfect shinobi if he hadn’t have spilled his guts to his little brother.

He’s not quite dead yet!

Unfortunately for Sasuke, it seems that douchebag Danzou isn’t going to go down that easily and Susanoo was brought about for nothing. Looks like another battle of my genjutsu is better than yours…

Well apart from the decals, but otherwise its good, time to start my VF-27 So this is how it began, all prettily packaged up.

HA! You thought the next pic would be of all the pieces out of the box, I meant to do that, but lost the camera for a few months. How does one lose a camera? Well in the last two months I’ve had two surgeries and one ER visit, so I blame my poor memory on the drugs.

While recovering I hadn’t felt like doing too much, blogging, building, basically anything. But hubby finally nudged me into completing this and I’m glad he did, she’s a beauty!

She packs quite a wallop in battle. I loved watching this thing kick ass while Macross Frontier was running.

Hubby just is totally in love with Skull Leader, so he’s seriously tempted to buy that version of this, though it will be put together by yours truly XD

By the time I’m done putting together Brera’s fighter I’ll be a bloody expert at these.

Oh yea and hubby got a few new additions to his cheering squad. Sheryl comes with her military outfit, but hubby prefers her without. Ranka’s bikini top comes off and while the real naughty bits are covered with stars, I still find that disturbing. Isn’t she a bit too young for playboy?

Oh and while I was taking shots, figured you all might get a kick out of seeing Saotome’s namesake. This is our Alto-kun, and he’s every bit as much a hime as our beloved Skull Squadron pilot.

Better watch out Naruto, Samehada is a Jinchuuriki molester…

So the battle between Killerbee and Kisame continues, Kisame of course appeared to have the upper hand, but Kisame didn’t count on Samehada deciding it didn’t love him anymore.

Instead the slimy sword sneaks over to Killerbee and decides he would rather molest the Hachibi. Killerbee’s bro turns up and unfortunately Sasuke isn’t there to witness the true strength of brotherhood and they team up to lay the smack down on shark face.

Just a thought, but if swords are a euphemism for a certain part of male anatomy, does that mean that Kisame is now dickless? XD

Somehow, I don’t think he’s coming out of the closet…

We find out that Suigetsu and Juugo are alive and well, the Mizukage sees through Danzou’s trap and Sai sends a clone to tell Naruto “the truth that Sakura couldn’t.”

But can he handle it?

So I don’t really have much to say about the battle, except hopefully it really is at and end. It would be nice for one of these things to be short and sweet, rather than overly long and dragged out.

Although as much as Kishimoto can drag out battles at least he isn’t mean enough to drag them out as long as some shounen mangas..

I guess its nice to see what happened to Suigetsu and Juugo, although I don’t really care enough about them to worry about what happened to them in the first place, so meh.

The end is the part I’m really interested in and to be honest I’ve just been waiting for all the battling to get over so we can get back to the whole, Naruto/Sakura/Sasuke thing.
