[LWC 66] Musings in Anime Music (16): Natsume Yuujin-Chou

The piano pieces in this anime I am particularly fond of. At times they have a Hisaishi-esque simplicity as well as a Muramatsu-esque swing feel.

This one is played in episode 7, around 19:50. The actual length of the piece is much longer. There’s a second ending to this first part, and then multiple ends to that one, and so forth and so on. This is just the blatantly subtle part that reminds me of this Hisashi piece from Spirited Away.

This the second piece, from episode 6 at 10:30. It kind of reminds me of the piano music from 5cm. It was weird though. Right after it was done, it repeated, but I was anticipating it to be in the parallel minor key. That would have sounded like this.

  1. It’s a shame I haven’t continued Natsume Yuujin-chou… The piano music from 5cm was great, and if it’s “Hisaishi-esque simplicity”, I’d probably like it.

  2. I had to drop it. Usually, the first like 18 minutes of each episode boring as hell and the emotive climax comes during the last two minutes are so, which sometimes make up for the entire episode. Ep. 8 was my favorite, the firefly one. Go watch that one if no others. But yeah, I enjoy the music.
